CALIFORNIA THEATRE WINTER MOVIE SERIES ANNOUNCED
Favorite holiday tradition will return this winter with classic titles
SAN JOSE, CA (November 19, 2009) – Team San Jose announced its Winter Movie Series titles for this coming holiday season at the California Theatre in Downtown San Jose. Mark your calendar to attend movies for affordable family fun at only $5 per person. The movie series will run Thursday through Sunday nights, December 17-27.
Partnering with the Stanford Theater Foundation, this season marks the 3rd year in a row the Winter Movie Series has called the California Theatre home. As an added bonus this year Christmas cartoons will run before each main movie feature and moviegoers receive free popcorn with each purchase of a beverage.
The Wizard of Oz

Join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin man, Cowardly Lion, the Wicked Witch of West and of course Toto too, and follow the yellow brick road and be swept away from the world of black and white to the magical, beautiful dangerous and Technicolor land of Oz in search for the Emerald City.

Enjoy this classic Dickens' story about the old merchant, Ebenezer Scrooge, who is warned by Marley's ghost on Christmas Eve that he must change his miserly ways or else. He is told that he can expect visitations from 3 ghosts, to which Scrooge "humbugs." When the ghosts do come, he is shown his past, the present that he has made and the future.

Experience this holiday classic: George Bailey as the picture perfect life: a loving wife, four young children, and his own business. However, on Christmas Eve, George encounters severe business difficulties leading George to face a life crisis. He's saved at the last moment by the appearance of his guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence shows George how much his life means by showing him how the world would be without him.

Join Ralphie in his pursuit and how Ralphie tries to overcome the obstacles in obtaining this gift, mainly in the form of adults who bleat "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!"
The Adventures of Robin Hood

Based on the well-known English legend, Robin of Locksley is a noble who is forced to become an outlaw when Prince John tries to take the throne from his absent brother. He flees to Sherwood forest where he gathers together his Merry Men and is called Robin Hood. He begins to rob the rich and give back to the poor, the townsfolk that are heavily-taxed by the Sherriff. Meanwhile he still has to defend the throne, and woo Maid Marian.
Movies at the California Theater have quickly become a bi-annual favorite tradition in Downtown San Jose as an affordable night out. A total of more than 3,200 patrons came to beat the heat this summer with a movie at the classic theater Downtown. The final weekend’s showing of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ proved to be by far the summer’s most popular viewing, with over 600 guests for both the Friday and Saturday showing.
